Volunteer Opportunities

We are looking for volunteers to support ongoing programs and events, such as our quarterly event series Pique. 

Join the team to learn more about behind-the-scenes event production, meet new people, and contribute to the presentation of groundbreaking and innovative works of art!

Volunteers for Pique get:

✦ Free admission to Pique before or after their shift

✦ A meal ticket + snacks

✦ Their own Pique shirt

✦ A unique experience to connect with artists and like-minded people! 

Roles include:

Pre-Pique Operations Assistant – Helps with general preparation and set-up for Pique. Heavy lifting may be required. Covered/hard shoes recommended.

✦ Topique Assistant – Assists with set-up and welcomes guests. Handles cash and card payment transactions. Guides guests through the registration process.

Box Office / Greeter – Sells and checks tickets, maintains cash and digital payment systems, provides wristbands on attendees, works alongside security to manage line and crowd.

Production Assistant – Helps with general preparation and set-up for Pique. Heavy lifting may be required. Covered/hard shoes recommended.

Merch Assistant – Liaises with the Debaser staff to receive and display the artists' merchandise, organizes information on prices and sizes, manages the merch table during the event, makes sales with cash and credit/debit cards, finds sizes and manages inventory. Some lifting may be required.

Gallery & Installation Attendant – Monitors spaces and installations, provides instructions, and answers questions about exhibits as needed. Ensures attendees don’t touch or damage artwork.

EQ.U.I.P.E Harm Reduction Team – Keeps an eye on the crowd with the goal of supporting harm reduction and bystander-driven assault prevention, works with a team led by harm reduction specialist Willow Cioppa.

Volunteer Lounge Receptionist – Responsible for onboarding and offboarding volunteers, as well as managing the lounge ensuring that it stays clean and stocked.

Usher – Greets audience members and shows them to free seats in the Theatre, opens/closes the doors during performances and helps maintain a quiet listening environment in the Theatre.

Green team / Eco-cup Washing Crew – Washes our re-usable eco-cups, helping to reduce plastic waste at Pique!

SAFETY

Volunteers will be required to wear a mask during their shift, and follow all provincial public health guidelines with respect to the transmission of COVID-19. PPE, including a face mask, hand sanitizer, and alcohol wipes, will be available on site.

Volunteers are expected to act with respect for one another. Violence, aggression, oppressive behaviour or language, or bullying will not be tolerated. If you are currently implicated in an accountability process, please ensure you are respecting the space and well-being of those your actions have affected before joining this space. If staff and/or Board are made aware of any behaviour that violates our safety policy, the person(s) perpetuating this behaviour will be asked to leave immediately. We reserve the right to intervene and/or remove ANY person(s) in the space who are creating or contributing to an unsafe environment.
